Sustainably produced to meet the most demanding needs

Kokkolan Nahka is a third-generation family company as well as the world’s largest tannery specialising in Nordic wild animal hides. Our main raw material is rawhide, which we process sustainably to make various leather products that meet the most demanding needs.
Our guiding principle is to get the wastage percentage of our raw material as close to zero as possible. In our production, we only use excess hides that would otherwise go to waste, working closely with hunters and selected local slaughterhouses. It is around these principles that we have created our main brands: Kokkolan Pet Products and Kaarna Elk Leather.

We offer our customers leather processed in various ways to suit a variety of needs. We have three different brand names, but what all our products have in common is that you can always buy, wear, use and serve them with great pride and in good conscience. We make ethical, ecological and sustainable leather through environmentally friendly and modern industrial production while preserving the traditional craft.

Kokkolan Pet Products

Kokkolan Pet Products makes tasty high-quality dog chews and treats from natural ingredients. The main ingredient in our dog chews is rawhide left over from other industries and from hunting. An especially popular treat for dogs is our chewing bones made from elk hides.

We also make pet treats using ingredients other than rawhide, but we always follow the same principles of sustainable development and sustainability that we employ in making all our other products.

Kokkolan Pet Products is a private label manufacturer, meaning that our products are sold to consumers under our customers’ own brand names.

In our production, we strongly emphasise product safety. Our production processes are safe and natural: we use only pure and fully traceable raw materials, and our products are bacteriologically tested as well.

Our family company owns the entire process from raw material selection to packaging and shipping, ensuring that the origin of our products is fully traceable, so consumers can rest assured that all our products are sourced, produced, packaged and shipped safely and sustainably. Kokkolan Pet Products offers a tasty, safe and sustainable choice for your pet.

Kaarna Elk Leather

Kaarna Elk Leather

Kaarna is exquisite, exclusive and exotic elk leather, designed for people who follow their own path in life and value premium quality and comfort that doesn’t come at the cost of sustainability.

Our tannery has been making our uniquely soft elk leather for three generations now. We have a deep respect for the life and dignity of the elk, Nordic nature and the long-standing tradition of leather-making.

When you touch elk leather, you can feel its exquisite softness and breathability. It feels good, and it feels right.

The elk is a highly valued game animal that is difficult to hunt. In Finland, elk are only ever hunted to control the population, never for their skin. This is why elk leather is such a rare and precious material.

Sustainably produced genuine leather is a more ecological choice than synthetic leather, which is made from fossil fuel-based chemicals and other non-biodegradable materials, or leather produced industrially in low-cost production countries. This is why Kaarna is a responsible right choice. Kaarna Elk Leather – it just feels right.

Pelo

Pelo

Pelo has stood for craftsmanship since 1897. Under our Pelo brand, we make high-quality knife sheath and nappa leather for demanding uses, with respect for traditional craftsmanship.

The story of Pelo began in 1897, when brothers Axel, Hugo and Fritiof Gustafsson founded a small tannery in their name on the banks of the Perhojoki river in Central Ostrobothnia and started making vegetable-tanned leather for local craftspeople. Today, this tannery is Finland’s oldest tannery still in operation and the Nordic market leader in sheath leather. It is a point of honour for us to continue to make heavy-duty leather that retains its excellent natural qualities in this traditional tannery, which was renamed Pelo after its location on the Pelorannantie road.

Developed in collaboration with knife sheath makers, our genuine vegetable-tanned sheath leather is in a league of its own in terms of its properties, making it a highly appreciated product in its product group. We use a vegetable tanning method that retains the natural qualities and excellent workability of the leather.

We also make soft and supple nappa leather for special purposes, supplying our customers with fireproof glove leather, shoe and boot leather, garment leather, strap leather and bag leather.

We want the legacy we leave to our children to be not just that of craftsmanship, but also of a clean environment and an equitable and democratic working environment. This is why we invest heavily in sustainable development and corporate responsibility.
